A Window into Time: The Celtic Flower & Christ Church Cathedral
A Window into Time: The Celtic Flower & Christ Church Cathedral
This drypoint print was born from a quiet moment of awe.
I was standing inside Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland—my camera on, eyes fixed on a small stained glass detail that felt both fragile and eternal. A single floral diamond, pressed between centuries of stone and story, caught my attention. It wasn’t the grandest window in the cathedral, but it whispered something timeless. A quiet beauty. A stillness. A reminder.
That moment turned into this print—a modern interpretation of a centuries-old design. Hand-etched and pulled with care, it’s a way of carrying a piece of that sacred silence forward.
Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest medieval cathedral in Dublin, originally founded around 1030 by the Norse King Sitric Silkenbeard. Its structure has shifted over centuries, balancing restoration with deep-rooted history. You can still walk its echoing crypts and see the remains of medieval stonework, relics, and artifacts hidden beneath the bustling city.
But it isn’t just a sacred site—it’s also a cinematic one.
You may recognize its soaring arches and solemn beauty from the TV show The Tudors, where the cathedral served as a backdrop for scenes dripping with royal drama and ecclesiastical intrigue. Costumes from the series are now displayed inside the cathedral itself—an unexpected and delightful merging of history and fantasy.
I love that.
It’s a reminder that the medieval world isn’t frozen in time. It’s living. Changing. Inspiring new stories.
This piece, like many in my collection, is my way of honoring that legacy: breathing new life into old symbols, so they can keep whispering to modern hearts.
Thank you for being part of that journey.
